Healing is not just about physical recovery, it's about preparing people [00:00:20] for life after illness. How do we support someone in reintegrating into daily life and society?
How do we help them rebuild confidence, trust, and a mindset strong enough to leave behind the old frame of reference that was shaped by sickness. My name is Torsten Lüddecke, [00:00:40] and this is the Wisdom Qigong podcast. I.
Welcome everyone to this episode of the Wisdom Qigong podcast. Today I've got Tsoe Tsan Yang with me. Uh, Tsoe Tsan is a zhineng qigong teacher in Belgium closed [00:01:00] again, and when I spoke to her before we said we would. Talk about her ideas and her work, uh, when it comes to people with cancer, because this is an important topic for many of us, uh, if it's not us, but we all have friends or relatives, uh, that are affected by this, uh, by this illness.
And we thought it could be very [00:01:20] helpful to hear from her because she's got a lot of experience in this field. Uh, Tsoe Tsan , welcome to the welcome to the show, and maybe you can let. Me know, first how comes that cancer is such an important topic, uh, for you in your work with zhineng qigong. Okay. Um, well, my, uh, my partner, [00:01:40] uh, had before, uh, cancer and Die in 2018.
So after I, uh, uh, start to do things for, uh, with cancer. Uh, topic and I went to work for a organization, [00:02:00] uh, who's only, uh, do everything for the cancer people like, um, uh, caring, uh, or people who has, uh, um, not enough family or friends around them to, to support them in their, uh, process of, uh, illness. [00:02:20] Um, so.
In that organization. I went there and, uh, I work, uh, about five years, uh, with that organization. And then after they, uh, changed, um, um. Organization, uh, and they open a [00:02:40] new one. And that one is also for cancer people, but it's a more an information center. And also they organize, uh, activity for them to support them mentally, uh, and, um, yeah, on um, [00:03:00] uh, physical body having activities.
So that, uh, everybody can, uh, can join that, uh, organization. Right. So, and there I, uh, also give the Tai Chi and Qigong and that organization about, I think, uh, four or five years, uh, [00:03:20] about like that. Yeah. So when you joined this organization, you were already a Tai Chi and zhineng qigong teacher. Um, before long time ago, I've, I've done already, um, more than 10 year Tai Chi and Chi, but the Ang Chi, I, uh, uh, do it [00:03:40] like last year I finished my Huyuan Qi therapy, um, last year, and then I introduced the zhineng qigong in that organization.
I combined the, the zhineng qigong with, uh, uh, Tai Chi. You integrate your Tai Chi and X [00:04:00] or XI therapy, uh, into the work with the people that have cancer, what is your experience there? How, uh, what is the effect? How do they respond?
Um, just tell us a little bit about that, please. Okay. Um, when I introduced the, the zhineng qigong is, um, uh, my [00:04:20] goal to, to, um, how to say, um, to let them integrate again in the society. Um, I, with the zhineng qigong and the Tai Chi. We can, um, build more confidence and trust and, uh, change them, [00:04:40] uh, the mindset, um, and, um, how to say, and also on physically, uh, um, level also to build up more, uh, uh, um.
Power and to reconnect the body and mind again and my most, [00:05:00] um, experience that the self, self, um, confidence. And, uh, to get out of their old frame of reference that it helps a lot to, uh, to integrate again in the society. Um, it's very, very helpful [00:05:20] because when their body is weak, it affects their mind also.
And also vice versa. When the, uh, when your mind is little bit disbalance, um, that effects also on, uh, your trust on your. Your own, uh, body. Well, uh, [00:05:40] so you, so you noticed that when you were working with these people that this is a shortcoming, that because they have gone through so much that their, you know, self-confidence is weakened and that their, uh, yeah.
That their mental strength is weakened and that's when you thought, you know, zhineng qigong and, uh, Tai [00:06:00] Chi and Therapy can help them to regain that confidence, right. Yes, yes, yes. And how do you do that exactly? Well, I, uh, like, uh, in the, uh, from the qigong part, the zhineng qigong part, I, I do like, um, uh, the most basic, [00:06:20] um, exercise that it's important.
It's like the, uh, hip rotation, the rolling the spine, and, uh, the neck programs, the neck exercise, because you, you from the top on the bottom hole, your spine is connected. The brain and, uh, [00:06:40] to make them more flexible because that affects also how your brain and, uh, with the Tai Chi, I, I do that with, um, uh, THU, the pushing hands.
Um, that's a, um, how to say, a method to, um, [00:07:00] it's a partner ex uh, uh, training. So you have to be with two, but you can do it also as with one. Person. But it's very interesting. The, the choice shoe is that you can, um, develop your own personal, uh, development, uh, on, on the [00:07:20] mind, qi and the body level. Um, because, um, how, because you work with two person, you directly have a confrontation with each other.
You get in the, in the, in an uncomfortable situation, like I push the other one and it, it feels [00:07:40] very uncomfortable, so then she or he has to find a, a solution to get out of that. But mostly when you push. The people directly react from the old frame of reference to the habits to react. So to change that, I push them a little bit out of [00:08:00] their comfort zone, but on a gentle wave for the people because they are already weak.
So, but they still, for them, it's uh, it's hard to, to get the push. So they have to, to hear, to change their mindset and, and, uh, and to get out at, but on the natural way to get out of the [00:08:20] uncomfortable, uh, situation. So that's a new frame of reference. They directly can, can, uh, transform that. And if you do few times with that, they, they, they get quickly the insights and, uh, create a new quickly, a new frame of reference.
Um, [00:08:40] and that. Um, how to say that? Uh, stay with them. They remember easy then, and they can then integrate it when you are in the society that they can't, oh, I have to this or that. Uh, not again, react from [00:09:00] my old frame of reference because that gives me that, that uncomfortable, um, feeling, uh, like that. So if I understood you correctly here by, uh, working with people's, um, uh, you put them in, in a, in an uncomfortable situation, and then the [00:09:20] automatic response kicks in that which you call the old frame of reference.
This is how I've always dealt with it when I'm in a uncomfortable situation and through the exercises they learn. A different way of responding, which is more powerful and puts them in the driver's seat so they don't feel helpless, they don't feel like the victim, they feel like I'm in [00:09:40] charge and I can handle it.
And I think the, um, what makes this particularly important is because, um. In, in many cases of any disease really, uh, the root cause is in some kind of behavior or belief that isn't working for them. This which, you know, which then creates the illness. [00:10:00] Uh, so that, uh, as, as the, for the body to show, hey, something is wrong, something is not working here.
And by you working with a frame of reference in this particular example, you also give them a powerful tool to basically question. The old patterns and the old frames of reference that might have brought them, you know, closer [00:10:20] to their illness like cancer. So this is also a possibility for them to break through, to make sure that the cancer doesn't reappear.
Is that, is that, uh, correct what I'm saying here? Completely correct. Good. Yes. Now I have to ask a clarifying question here, because the way you are working with, uh, [00:10:40] with these people are these people that have already overcome cancer and they, it's about reintegrating them into their life. Or is it people that are still struggling with cancer and are trying to overcome it?
Uh, it's a, a mixed of the, the group is a mix. It's a small group. Uh, I think it's [00:11:00] about maximum eight person, but mostly it's four or six person in the group. So a small, and it's more, um, how to say, safe, safe feeling, uh, right. Like that. But it's a mixed, mixed, uh, group. I see. Because the, what you've just described, I think is mainly, uh, your focus [00:11:20] there is to make sure that when people, uh, that have healed themselves go back into society, that they are, that they come, go prepared, and that they are in their most resourceful state and, uh, and strong so that they can go back into, uh, into life and create the beautiful life that they want.
Right? Yes. [00:11:40] Now, are you also working with people that are, you know, currently, um, trying to overcome cancer? And how, and are you working any different with these people or are you doing the same things? I, my, uh, way of working? I do, I give lessons on, uh, different kind of groups, young, old, [00:12:00] uh, uh, I do it all in the same way.
I am from my own experience. , I also had gone through that process and I, I, um, experienced a value of the, the, the, the methods, the value, the value of the [00:12:20] me, , and uh, and then when I do the zhineng qigong, I start with zhineng qigong and the Huyuan Qi therapy. I see the whole picture because we all work on the three levels, the mind, body, and the Qi.
And it's to get reconnect again as a whole. The mind and the body. [00:12:40] Um, your intention works on one way, um, as a whole. Then you, you, you, um, you heal yourself, like in the ang therapy says the true the tree, um, pillar of the true health is your, your internal and your [00:13:00] external relationship to, to balance and harmonize, and then the brain's nerve system.
And then, uh, the other one, the upright mindset. So with those three together, um, it's, uh, it's from my, uh, perspective, uh, a very valuable way [00:13:20] to, to guide, uh, people to, uh, a new point of life. Yeah. And how do people respond to that? They are very, very, um, happy and especially, uh, the [00:13:40] confrontation with, with their own old frame of reference that they are not.
Self-conscious about it and when the insights, they are so surprised. I, I, I didn't know that I'd do that. I say, yes, I know. And then we, we work together on a new frame of [00:14:00] reference. And, and from that way of the, the toy shoe, then you can see and you can directly transformed in a new frame of reference.
Because when you, you, when you. Mm, contact with body. When I push somebody, [00:14:20] your body never lies how you feel, how you react, because you unconsciously react. Uh, and that's why for me is the, the body contact one part also very important, um, uh, to heal yourself as a whole, uh, [00:14:40] to go deeper because, uh. One way we do it on, uh, in the beginning we train on the, on more, on the physical level, more harder to push or something like that.
But when the process get further, you can do it on a more, um, um, [00:15:00] sub subtitle way, um, more energetic way. And it's very subtle. And, and then when you learn to more get inside of you. To experience your own self insight, then you, um, uh, are quickly conscious [00:15:20] about your body and how you react. Yes. And then you get more self-control.
So if you more get more conscious about your inside and then you directly feel, uh, when somebody touch you, you can directly, uh, your mindset changed to not get again in old frame of reference. [00:15:40] Right, right. Yeah. Now. What you're basically doing is you're taking people on a discovery, uh, journey about themselves.
Right. And I think that's why they react so happy because whenever I discover something about myself, it obviously is very powerful because only when I see these things about myself, I. [00:16:00] Then I can change something. If I'm not aware of what I'm actually doing, I'm doomed. But, uh, if I, if I, if I understand, oh, this is how I react now, suddenly I have an option and I can take an alternative route and I could to have, take alternative action.
Now the, so I think this is why it's so powerful and why it's working so well. And obviously if you [00:16:20] do this in one area, it is easy to replicate it in other areas. So you are using specific exercises to help people rediscover these things. Uh, but once they know how to do it, you know, they probably create an awareness for other situations in their life where they suddenly are in a position to observe themself and see, oh, that's [00:16:40] interesting that I react that way.
Uh, I wasn't even aware that this is an automatic response that I always have. And then again, you can change something. So I think this is a, a very powerful practice that you had, that you're taking with that. Now my question is though, uh, is this, uh, cancer specific, because, you know, we are talking today about how [00:17:00] zhineng qigong can help, uh, with, um, with cancer.
The work you're doing here, um, is it, um, spec specifically useful for people with cancer or is it basically something you could do with anyone?
You can do it with anyone because, because it is, how to say, [00:17:20] uh. Because we work on all this, the same, same thing. The old frame of reference, the body structure, uh, and the qi, uh, or the emotions. Everything that's, it's all same, uh, um, but um, of course when you are [00:17:40] weaker, uh, you are ill, it's, uh, comes, uh, in, uh, more deeply.
Or for example, like, um, there's a project that I want to do with, uh, younger people who has, uh, high sp uh, so more a very, uh, sensitive, energetic [00:18:00] sensitive. So we can do that also on that way. So in fact, you can do it with everybody. All the, I also do with older people, everyone. And it works directly.
That's, that's why it's so very powerful. Um, the, the combination altogether. Can you [00:18:20] give us some examples of what people have learned through this exercise, what kind of insights they had and how that changed their lives? Okay. For example, um, I start always like, uh, to stand in your basic posture, uh, like in the, uh, like, [00:18:40] um, um, yeah, um, uh, your hip rotation a little bit.
So the basic. Posture and zhineng. So I do also, but it's not because your posture is, is, uh, aligned that you, uh, can't be, uh, [00:19:00] get out of balance, meaning, um, because most people are mind and body disconnected. And, uh, so I put them in the, um, posture, in the basic posture. Then I push them a little bit and they feel that they are out of balance [00:19:20] and that feels uncomfortable.
So I, uh, return them again in their basic posture, and I do it again. And then I say, put your intention to stay where you want to stay. Then I push again. They stay. So the [00:19:40] intention is very important to, uh, and, uh, the mind and body to connect as one. And that makes you as a whole, um, that you, uh, move forward, uh, and not only your mind or your body.
So you are basically, you, you [00:20:00] are, you're using what we all know that intention is a, a core principle, uh, of Ang Qigong because with your intention, you are guiding the qi in the particular direction and you're creating something in your life, and you are combining this. You're bringing the body and the minds together so that the intention is aligned between the two [00:20:20] of them, right.
Yes. Yes. Okay. Yes. And that is where power that people then experience how powerful this is. And they probably realize that in, in those areas where the intention is not aligned and they don't create the results that they want, right? Yes. Yes. Yeah. Yeah. The, the how you, you, you own intention [00:20:40] makes that how powerful or not powerful, uh, it is to, to do something.
Like, uh, I always say stay where you want to stay. And, uh, and then I do the other, the opposite. Like I do the same exercise and then I say, um, stay again in your [00:21:00] basic posture. And then I say, now you think about all your troubles or your, your what you want to do, and I push again and they get out of balance and then again, do it again in the same, in the correct way.
Then they feel right? Yeah. It's very subtitled. [00:21:20] And, uh, they realize how, how in the important is the, the information and the, the intention that you give yourself, uh, what you want. Uh, really. Uh, and also, and also the, I maybe is that the same? I don't know. But, um, the decision. Decision, [00:21:40] uh, it's very important because you can put an intention.
And you, you decide that. But I feel sometimes they, they are, um, how to say, uh, not sure. It's like, okay, I will stand here. But you feel that. You feel that, and then lets say you have to [00:22:00] really decide, like master, you always say just do it. And then together with your intention very, and your, your whole, your aligned with your body and your posture.
It's really, really powerful. Right? Yeah. That's one of the, the, the basic. [00:22:20] Exercise I always do with, uh, everybody. If, yeah. I'd like to hear a little bit about, uh, the concrete results that you are creating in the, with the people. So what exactly has changed in their life, you know, what are the, the healing stories or what have they changed as a result [00:22:40] of your trainings?
Okay. There's one woman, for example, um, and she, uh, uh, it's changed. She's more. More confidence, more open and um, uh, it ask less energy from herself. Because before [00:23:00] her, she was very, uh, how to say, a, a perfectionist. Uh, and, uh, also, uh, she's always in her mind and her habits is also doing, doing, doing, doing, doing.
So she, she, and, and also, um, um, she [00:23:20] don't, um, out her emotions, so, and so we change our frame of reference on all those. All those, uh, stuff, uh, uh, issues. And, uh, she changed totally. She's open, she's more confident. She says what she [00:23:40] wants to, to do. And, um, she has more, uh, uh, energy and also with her, uh, um, on the body level, uh, she's more.
Standing grounded. And, uh, and, uh, on that way it helped her [00:24:00] lot to, uh, to stand there as a whole without, uh, again, falling again. Her old frame of reference. Yeah. When you talk about, you know, where she's coming from, it's very easy to understand, for most of us, why that makes her very, uh, receptive for [00:24:20] diseases like cancer because there's a constant stress that must be happening.
And, um, yeah. And, uh, through that change that, uh, that. It's a real relatively simple change, but with huge effects. Um, you know, the, the, the body will be far more relaxed. The mind will be more relaxed and [00:24:40] any disease will have a hard time, uh, to flourish if you are in that state, right? Yes, that's correct.
Yes. And also like, uh, she has an indeed less, um, stress and she can do more than before. Yes. Like that I. That's a [00:25:00] very, uh, it's about how, um, she follows from with me, um, I think two, three years, uh, already, uh, lessons. Yes. And she still, uh, following my course for the zhineng qigong and all those things to, to get further [00:25:20] to, to, uh, because it's, it's, uh, how to say.
We have, we change. It's, it's, it's always a process and everything, and we still, everybody still have, uh, Sid due of your problems. So we still keep working on ourselves, on all [00:25:40] the levels. Yes. And any other insights, uh, that you had while you were teaching these people and while you were giving these classes?
Is there anything else you would like to share with the community here, which you think is important for people to understand and to know[00:26:00]
Well, um, I think to, to get the result of, of transformation is, is really, uh, uh, dedicated practice. And, uh, also for me. Um, but, uh, when and when you, [00:26:20] when you do that really every day, practice, practice and, uh, you, I. You get in a deeper, deeper level in everything what you are doing. And um, um, like for example, I still practice my, uh, level one holding qi, uh, up qi down.
And I still [00:26:40] get deeper, deeper and finer. Um. Discovery insights, uh, how to move. It's not only the, um, outside movement, but also inside. And, um, and then you get also the, the energy, uh, [00:27:00] flow of everything. And, um, yeah. And then, then, and then you get more and more connected as one and you forget everything.
Outside your body, everything you just in the state of mingue, right. Right. Yeah. Now [00:27:20] if I hear, if I listen to you there, I have two thoughts there. One is obviously that, uh, with dedicated practice and the more you practice, the deeper you can go and the deeper your learnings and you know, and uh, because you were talking about energy levels here and the better your energy level, I mean, that seems like obvious.
Uh, to us [00:27:40] at the same time. I think there's a second, um, factor that is important because, uh, you were talking earlier about, um, the power of intention and the power of decision and a dedicated practice for me also is a clear, shows a clear commitment. Which is, which is kind of your, like, I have made a [00:28:00] decision.
This is it. I'm gonna go for it. And a dedicated practice kind of reinforces that commitment, that decision. And uh, so I think it's also on the psychological level next to all the learnings I have when I go deeper and experience more and increase my energy levels. It's also a way to. [00:28:20] Tell my unconscious, I'm serious about this.
And, uh, which is the same thing as reinforcing the intention through a decision. So it just came up when you, when you spoke about it, so I thought I mentioned this. Uh, how do you see, how do you see that? But I see you nodding, so you probably agree, right? It is, it is, it is, uh, correctly what you, you [00:28:40] say.
That's was also my experience about it. So it it's staying practice, practice. Even if we have not so much time just. Stay doing, doing, doing. And then you get deeper and deeper and, and everything and you understand also everything better. Uh, uh, the theory and [00:29:00] the practice and, and like that. Yes. Yes, yes.
Hmm. Alright, is there anything else you would like to share before we come to an end? Um, whoa. Just stay open minded and open heart, uh, with everything what [00:29:20] we do, uh, and, and stay sharing things to lift up and everything, what we, we doing. Yes. So that's what I, yeah. I can, yeah, I can see when I, when I, when I talk to you and when I experience you, I would say it is, it is also a [00:29:40] key, um, uh, characteristic of how you are with people because otherwise they wouldn't be so open to work with you.
They wouldn't be so open to do these exercises. That only works if they can. Truly feel you are coming from an open heart and open mind without any judgements. You're just [00:30:00] there to support them. And you're doing this from the, from the good of your heart, if I may say so, uh, which automatically makes, it makes people more willing to, to, to, um, to work that way and to try new things.
Then if you had, you know, a doctor somewhere sitting there with this judging mind and, you know, trying to [00:30:20] analyze people, um, I think this is a very. Open and a human way of working with people that have obviously gone through very difficult times because, um, as we know, cancer is not an easy thing for most people to deal with.
Um, so I think that that's, uh, so I want to thank you for bringing that up. Uh, we take it sometimes for granted [00:30:40] because we use it so often, open heart, open mind, but it's not just words. It's really our ways of being that enables other people. To, uh, benefit from the knowledge that you have, from the experience that you have, from what you can bring to them, because they also need to be able to receive it, and they will only be willing to receive it if this open-minded, [00:31:00] open heart is there, uh, so that they feel, yes, I feel.
Taking good care of, and you use the, the, the expression, uh, creating a safe space for them earlier in the, in our conversation. So I think this is what it's all about when you're coming from that point. And it's, uh, obviously encouraging them to do the same when they go out in into their [00:31:20] lives. And you've mentioned it's here or there in our conversation as well, that this is one of the results of your training.
Um, or of the work that the people have done with you that when they go out, they're far more open and, uh, more confident and more trusting. Um, which kind of is the same thing as say open heart, open mind, right? Yes. And [00:31:40] also one thing, ag. Um, humor. Yes. Humor. Okay. Yeah, I like that. Yes. I always, because then you, you break the seriously.
Yeah. That's also very important part. Yes, yes. And yeah, I, I totally, I [00:32:00] totally agree, uh, because I, if we, it's, it's. It's not easy to say because at the end of the day, it's people's life. So it is serious on one level, yes, but you can only relax and you can only let your, you know, let the qi do the work if you're not tensing up.
So [00:32:20] humor kind of allows us to take the serious out of it and, uh, to see things. In a, in a, in a, in a, in a more lighthearted way. And that already gives the q the possibility to start working. That already decreases the stress.
